To Find God July 9, 2006
Jeremiah 29:11-13: With our astronauts flying on a mission in space again, isn’t it a personal comfort to just pray that they will have a safe mission exploring the outer reaches of our universe created by God, and that they will return safely. I was reading in the book, Profiles in Faith by Harold Sala, about Colonel James Irwin who went to the moon as part of the Apollo 15 flight in 1971. The flight medallions presented to the astronauts read: Man’s flight through life is sustained by the power of his knowledge! Jim often quoted that, changing it to: Man’s flight through life is sustained by the power of His (referring to God’s) knowledge. Is that true of your life? Or have you considered God as someone out there whom you cannot really know? Jim Irwin believes that God is not just out there, but He can be within your life personally, changing your habits and destiny. In our generation, the scientific method has come into its own; and this has made advancement of science possible and put men on the moon. The scientific method means that a great deal of research is conducted in the area of investigation. Then after careful analyses of the revealed facts, conclusions are reached. First facts, then conclusions. The scientific method works quite well in a laboratory, but can you find God through the same way? If you take time to examine the evidence of God’s existence and read His revealed Word, the Bible, you will find that is far more logical - yes, even more scientific - to believe in God than to explain either the vastness of our universe or the emptiness that exists in human hearts without Him. You and I will probably never stand on the moon as Jim Irwin did, yet we can experience the same God who changed Jim’s life and gave him a new direction and purpose. I hope you will go to the record, and as you do so, I have no doubt you will come to the same conclusion that Jim Irwin came to: There is one God and our mediator between God and humanity is our savior Jesus Christ, and you can know Him personally. PRAYER: O God, we pray that our astronauts will accomplish their mission and will return to earth safely. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. Luther McCollum |
