detailed history. Fairview was founded in the year 1881 and was named for the
"fair view" it enjoyed from the hilltop between the Reedy Fork Creek and
the Haw River. It then served an agricultural community.
Fairview became a part of the Methodist Protestant Conference in
1883. The present structure was built by 1885 although it has certainly
undergone many changes since then.
The church has been a
part of several circuits, stations and missions, as the divisions were
called. Haw River Charge, Burlington Mission, Gibsonville Circuit,
Fairview-Glen Raven Circuit and in 1939 after the merger of the
Methodist Episcopal and Methodist Protestant churches, we became a part
of the Burlington Circuit. In 1948 Fairview gained its first full-time
pastor. In 1951, the church began the addition of an educational
building, kitchen, and Sunday School rooms in a two-story building at
the back of the sanctuary. The sanctuary was also renovated at that
time. Fairview again renovated the sanctuary in 1961.
In 1968, the Methodist Church and Evangelical
United Brethren united to form the United Methodist Church.
On November 11, 1993,
ground breaking for a new fellowship hall with new kitchen and offices
took place. Construction began in March 1994 and a Consecration Service
was held on February 19, 1995
Again in 2004 it was
discovered that there was major damage in the bell tower, steeple and
sanctuary areas of the church. This extensive restoration and repair
work was done in 2005. The sanctuary was painted and new carpet was
installed at this time.
Today, the area surrounding Fairview houses families supporting many
occupations but it is still a close knit community of caring people of
faith. As we continue our ministry at Fairview we strive to teach the bible
as the inspired word of God. Our programs encourage children,
youth and adults to read the bible and live according to the lessons
taught therein and to act with personal guidance from the Holy Spirit.
You will find in Fairview, a strong commitment to Christ and His
church and a desire to serve God in service, words and deeds. We
welcome everyone who seeks to know God and to find the deep satisfaction
that comes from living a Christian life.
